Viv Fantin, who set up Next Act Coaching in 2016 to help people in creative industries, has partnered with APRA AMCOS for its new Professional Development Series for Women.

Kicking off last night in Brisbane, the series sees Fantin present her interactive workshop ‘Tune Out Your Inner Critic’ for the organisation’s songwriter, composer and music publisher members. The workshop was a favourite at BIGSOUND last month, however this version for APRA AMCOS has been tailored specifically for the collecting society's members.

Created to provide resources to a broader group of women and non-binary members who are looking for creative and business skills, the series heads to Melbourne tonight, with events in Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin to follow.

“I’m so thrilled to be part of APRA AMCOS' Professional Development Series for Women," said Fantin. "I see women from the creative fields crippled by their inner critic all the time, and I’m talking about seriously talented individuals who have many reasons to feel accomplished and confident, yet are undermined by negative self-talk."

The Professional Development Series, which is free for APRA members, was inspired by the sheer number of applications and interest in APRA AMCOS’ inaugural Female Mentoring program.

APRA AMCOS’ Head of Member Services Jana Gibson said: “The demand for this type of series reinforces what the research is telling us: while the number of men and women studying music is nearly equal, fewer women feel equipped to pursue music at a professional level. The aim across our initiatives is to help make the career pathways easier to navigate, so that we don’t have an attrition of talent from the music industry.”
