Rock greats INXS have reached diamond status on the ARIA Albums Chart with their Very Best Of compilation album selling more than half a million units.

The announcement was made at the ARIA Awards last week, with bandmembers Tim Farriss and Kirk Pengilly presenting the award for Best Group, which ultimately went to Tame Impala.

The Very Best of INXS was released in 2011 and has spent 430 weeks in the ARIA Top 100 albums chart, with seven weeks spent at #1. Though it was released in 2011, the album received a welcome boost in numbers after the Seven Network aired its 2014 two-part miniseries INXS: Never Tear Us Apart.

Earlier this year, ARIA crowned The Very Best of INXS the top Australian Album of the Decade.

The band will also feature in Rolling Stone Australia's forthcoming special edition highlighting the 50 greatest Australian artists of all time.

"It’s very hard to express the pride and joy I have at this moment," Petrol Records founder CM Murphy said in a statement.

"It is now 10 years since returning to INXS and with their highest selling album having achieved a Diamond Award and now voted by the people as Artist of the Decade, it brings me to tears!”
