Tributes flow for Aussie metalcore bassist Sean Kennedy, dead at 35

Tributes have flown from the Australian metalcore fraternity for I Killed The Prom Queen and Deez Nuts bassist Sean Kennedy.

He died earlier this week at 35. The official cause of death has not been released.

Former I Killed The Prom Queen vocalist Michael Crafter confirmed Kennedy’s death on Tuesday February 23 on Instagram.

“For years we stood side by side on stage or in band photos,” he remembered. “We slept on floors, in vans, planes and somehow managed to tour the world. Time went way to [sic] fast.

“We experienced highs and lows on the road and after all we went through, you will always be my friend. As the years passed us by I’m glad we’ve always been there for each other.

“When I called you last week I didn’t think it would be the last. I wish I could say goodbye. Love and will always miss you mate. Rest In Peace Sean Kennedy 24/6/1985 – 23/2/2021.”

The Amity Affliction’s Ahren Stringer called him “one of a kind @skdtd my brother, my friend, my confidant” while tributes also came from Suicide Silence's Dan Kenny and Deez Nuts’ JJ Peters.

Kennedy joined Adelaide band I Killed The Prom Queen in 2003, replacing Leaton Rose, and appeared on the debut studio album When Goodbye Means Forever, released in Australia on Resist Records and Eulogy Recordings in the US where they toured extensively.

He also played on the 2005 EP Your Past Comes Back to Haunt You and 2006 album Music For The Recently Deceased.

He left the band in 2013, which allowed him to concentrate on Deez Nuts with whom he recorded Stay True, Word Is Bond, Binge & Purgatory and You Got Me Fucked Up.
