Tones And I snaffles another No. 1 with her breakthrough beast ‘Dance Monkey.’

The one-time busker was the world’s top songwriter in 2020, according to a new report published by U.K.-based music admin platform Blokur.

The full picture hasn’t been revealed, though Blokur confirms “that our number crunching makes Toni Watson aka Tones And I the No. 1 songwriter of 2020 on streaming platforms."

Britain’s MBW gives a sneak peek at the report, and the trade title will publish excerpts of the 2020 Songwriters Report in the days ahead.

Tones is the only Australian and only female songwriter in the songwriters top 10, a list dominated by North American and British talent and based on works streamed on Spotify, Apple, Amazon and YouTube, for which Blokur gives equal weighting.

Watson solely the song, which is a major factor in her latest accolade.

Separately, Tones hit No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 Songwriters Chart for the first time in January 2020, when the song broke into the U.S Top 10.

Produced by Konstantin Kersting, ‘Dance Monkey’ ruled the singles charts in 30 countries, including the U.K. and Australia, where its 24-week reign is a record.

It's also recognised as the most-Shazam song of them all, and it's No. 3 on Spotify's most-played list.

The songwriters accolade comes in the same week as Tones scores her second Top 40 hit in the U.K with ‘Fly Away,’ which lifts 42-33.

Headquartered in London, Blokur claims to work with 70% of the music publishing sector, plus record label copyright departments, music supervisors and various types of music users.

Its database contains over 20 million songs, alongside data for another 50 million recordings.
