Hometowns

Spunk & Dinosaur City Records are going back to their roots, with the launch of a new month-long event series intended to trigger activity in regional NSW.

With the help of Create NSW, the labels will combine their rosters and go back to the regional communities from which they came.

The initiative is called Hometowns, and organisers are hoping they will inspire the next generation of NSW musicians.

Among the confirmed acts are Jack Ladder and band, Big White, Body Type, Shining Bird, Steve Gunn (USA), Floodlights, Flowertruck, Sunscreen and Lachlan Denton.

They will perform ten shows down the coast from Bellingen, Avalon to Bermagui, out to Cooma and Wagga during November and December.

These stops won’t be just one-offs. They will be a full-day event with live performances and talks, incorporating schools and venues, in towns which are mostly out of the tour circuits.

The venues will be encouraged to start programming contemporary music.

Spunk is headquartered in the South Coast, this year celebrating its 20th anniversary and a run which yielded 650 releases which included global names as Sufjan Stevens, Bill Callahan, Bat For Lashes and Arcade Fire.

Dinosaur City Records – formed in 2015 by Jordanne Chant and Cody Munro Moore – has released 35 records, annual mixtapes and is known for starting the careers of Body Type and Gauci.

The label is Sydney-based but has strong roots on the far south coast, where Cody was raised.
