The Federal Bureau of Prisons has released Sean Combs' projected release date, revealing the music mogul is set to complete his 50-month sentence on May 8th, 2028.

The calculation stems from his initial arrest in September 2024 on federal charges that ultimately led to his conviction (as per Rolling Stone).

Combs received a four-year and two-month prison sentence on October 3rd after a jury convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The charges related to transporting ex-girlfriends and male escorts across state lines for commercial sex. However, the jury acquitted him on more serious allegations of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.

The 55-year-old Bad Boy Records founder already has served more than a year in custody since his arrest in New York. Federal prosecutors had sought a sentence exceeding 11 years, while probation officials recommended approximately six to seven years. Combs' legal team requested no more than 14 months, which would have equated to time served.

US District Judge Arun Subramanian emphasised the importance of accountability during sentencing. "A substantial sentence must be given to send a message to abusers and victims alike that exploitation and violence against women is met with real accountability," he stated. "Victims who have the courage to report their abusers and relive the excruciating trauma of that abuse by testifying in court should see that their efforts can result in meaningful accountability."

Combs' attorney Teny Geragos filed a letter on October 6th requesting that the music executive be assigned to FCI Fort Dix in central New Jersey. Geragos argued the low-security facility would enable Combs to "address drug abuse issues" and "maximise family visitation and rehabilitative efforts." The prison, located 80 miles south of Manhattan, would position him closer to his New York-based legal team.

The New Jersey facility has previously housed notable inmates including convicted fraudster Martin Shkreli and Real Housewives of New Jersey star Joe Giudice. Judge Subramanian declined to recommend a specific location for Combs' incarceration.

Currently, Combs remains in a federal detention centre in Brooklyn while awaiting his official prison assignment. He recently filed a notice appealing both his conviction and sentence, which could potentially affect the projected timeline.

Combs' legal team has also reached out to President Donald Trump regarding a potential pardon, noting Trump's previous clemency grants to music industry figures including Lil Wayne, Kodak Black, and Death Row Records co-founder Michael "Harry-O" Harris during his first administration's final hours in January 2021.
