Sunshine Coast radio station Hot 91 has taken the extreme measure of banning all Perth-based musicians from the airwaves to support local netball team Sunshine Coast Lightning in the upcoming Suncorp Super Netball finals this weekend.

The Lighting will go up against West Coast Fever at Perth Arena this Sunday (August 26) and until it's over listeners won't hear any Perth musicians on the station.

“Effective immediately and until after the game on Sunday afternoon, we will be removing ALL Perth acts from our station,” says program director Ronnie Stanton.

“That includes INXS, Baby Animals, Jebediah, Cassie Davis, Birds of Tokyo, Eurogliders, Eskimo Joe and John Butler Trio, (they’re from Fremantle but that’s too close for our liking).”

As the official radio sponsor of the final, Stanton insists that despite the move, there's no bad blood between the cities.

“For the record, we don’t hate Perth, we just can’t be friends right now,” Stanton added.
