A new round of recording grants is on offer from PPCA & Australia Council

Five grants of $15,000 are on offer from the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) and the Australia Council for the Arts.

The grants will be used to assist the five recipients create new sound recordings.

Previous grant recipients include ARIA Award winners Courtney Barnett, All Our Exes Live In Texas and Miiesha.

Last year, Indigenous artist Nathan May, Queensland Music Award-winning composer and multi-instrumentalist Matthew Hsu, and Chelsea Wilson recording with the Women of Soul Collective received grants.

PPCA CEO, Annabelle Herd, said she's looking forward to hearing what comes from this year's winners.

"We are exceptionally proud of PPCA's continued partnership with the Australia Council for the Arts, which has a rich heritage of supporting diversity, celebrating creativity and supporting fantastic recording artists across the nation," she said.

"When I consider the amazing albums this partnership has helped bring to light so far, I can't help but to look forward to the recordings to come, some of which I'm certain will change the course of Australian music."

Australia Council's head of music, Kirsty Rivers, noted the power of recorded music.

"The Australia Council is delighted to again partner with PPCA to present another round of recording grants. These grants have a long history of investing in artists at critical moments in their careers," she said.

"Australians love and turn to recorded music. It provides the soundtrack for our lives, and we are pleased these grants will enable the recording of new music allowing artists to interpret and make sense of the unique and challenging times we are living through."

Applications are open now and close at 3pm (AEST) on Tuesday, April 12.
