Music Sales' latest purchase to bring French music catalogue to Aus

Independent publisher Music Sales, which has an AU/NZ office in Sydney, has been busy beefing up its catalogue with a slew of acquisitions.

Its latest purchase is French publishing company Bleu Blanc Rouge (BBR), founded by Belgian record producer and songwriter Jean Kluger and his wife Huguette in Paris in 1967.

Including tracks penned with Kluger's writing and producing partner Daniel Vangarde, the catalogue includes works by Claude Bolling, Les Parisiennes, André Popp, Jean Bouchéty and Gustavo Beytelmann.

Jane English, Managing Director at Music Sales Australia and New Zealand told The Industry Observer the catalogue will be represented locally:

“I am happy to say that Music Sales Australia’s Campbell Connelly will represent the music catalogue of Bleu Blanc Rouge for Australia and New Zealand. I just love the disco works, such as 'Australia' by the Good News. And then there are those songs performed by Boney M., Amii Stewart, Gibson Brothers, and Ottawan with its huge hit 'D.I.S.C.O'.

"Our synchronisation and licensing department is really looking forward to pitching this catalogue of fabulously fun songs,” she added.

The acquisition follows Music Sales' purchase of French firm Le Chant du Monde from [PIAS] in November and the US publishing rights to 'The Twist', written by Hank Ballard and recorded by Chubby Checker last June.
