Music On My Mind event to draw attention to mental health struggles in music community
The event organisers noted mental health in the music industry is on the decline.
On World Mental Health Day, Saturday, October 10, Rave Reviewz, along with the City of Sydney, will live-stream the Music On My Mind event in a bid to raise funds and awareness of mental health within the music community.
In 2019, the event was held in person at Sydney's Oxford Art Factory and raised $18,750 for Support Act and ReachOut.
Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and associated restrictions, this year the event will be live-streamed from 7pm to midnight from Club 77. It will feature Ben Nott, Net Abisedon, Robbie Low, Wild Fox and Marley Sherman.
50% of the donations received will go to Support Act - the mental health charity for music industry professionals - while the other half will be used to keep Music On My Mind a viable operation now and into the future.
The organisers noted how much COVID-19 had exacerbated the mental health struggles of the industry.
"In 2020, mental health is a bigger issue than ever before. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a massive impact, especially on the music industry with venues shut down, events and tours cancelled and thousands of jobs lost. Support Act - the mental health charity for music industry professionals - saw a 52% increase in demand for counselling through their Wellbeing Helpline from April to June (the period covering the lockdown in NSW). This figure looks set to increase further sadly, as the pandemic continues to take effect," publicity for the event said.
The event has a $10,000 target and is taking donations here.
