Music in Facebook Messager is going to be big

As revealed at Facebook's recent f8 developer conference, there's a brand new push toward music on Messenger.

"If you are excited to share the newest song you love, you can now add a bot directly in a group thread and share the conversation and experience with your friends," Facebook wrote in a blog post. "We think that this will enable people to virally share bots."

Facebook is referring to a feature called ‘Chat Extensions’, which allows users to share and play music from Spotify and Apple Music (and probably other services in due time) with contacts on Messenger.

In Spotify's blog post announcing the feature, it said: “People can search and share Spotify songs, albums, and playlists directly with friends without ever leaving the Messenger app."

The increased interest in exploring bots and conversational interfaces follows an integration of Facebook and Spotify back in 2011.

The plans were neglected fairly quickly but the refreshed interest in bots is great news for the growing number of artist chatbots and music discovery bots - a godsend for the social-driven industry.
