ViacomCBS has hinted at the return of its live event series MTV Unplugged in 2022.

At its 2022 Upfronts presentation this afternoon revealing its upcoming content slate, chief sales officer, Rod Proser, said the media organisation doesn't just reach the younger key advertising demographics, it understands them better.

It was here that he slipped in mention of MTV Unplugged.

"In early 2022, we are launching new events from MTV Unplugged, to Paw Patrol shows, to Nickelodeon theme parks and hotels. Our playground has got bigger, and it's more playful and more desirable."

Approached for further details by TMN after the presentation, a spokesperson said: "We will have more information on MTV Unplugged later this year."

MTV Unplugged first aired in the US in 1989, but has been less frequent from 2000 onwards, airing as one-off specials in many instances.

More recently in Australia, a Melbourne-based series ran across 2018 and 2019 featuring Gang Of Youths, Amy Shark, DMA's, and Courtney Barnett.

In April this year, the series was revived for a special with Tash Sultana.
