Licensing restrictions cause Sydney venue to cancel live music night

Let’s be honest: we’re getting pretty tired of writing stories about Sydney venues closing and gigs getting shut down, when we’d rather be talking about all the great live music that is happening in our city at the moment.

But this story is a new one, even by recent standards.

The Nomad Brewing Co. in Brookvale has cancelled a live music night scheduled for this Friday night, because the two bands booked for the show had… too many members?

Local acts Coffin and The Vee Bees, each of them a four-piece, received a message from the venue that read:

“I spoke to the licensing police on the weekend as they were at the rugby and they advised me that having your band play here on Friday is going to be an issue.

“They have imposed a rule on us that only 1-3 piece bands can play here so I’m sorry for the late notice but I am unable to have you play here.”

In a statement to the BRAG this morning, Nomad Brewing Co. said: “Unfortunately we have had to cancel the event due to licensing restrictions and crowd capacity”.
