Aussie tech startup Jaxsta has announced a data partner agreement with Music and Entertainment Rights Licensing Independent Network (Merlin) and its members.

The new deal comes after Jaxsta recently launched a beta version of its music-credit platform, where it stores 100 million credits from 19 million recordings.

Merlin is the digital rights agency for the world’s independent label sector with more than 800 members. It represents thousands of record labels from 63 countries.

"We are very excited to announce this important partnership with Merlin," said Jaxsta CEO Jacqui Louez Schoorl.

"The independent music industry has supported our journey from the beginning, and we have been proud to support independent music through a myriad of initiatives including our memberships with A2IM, AIM and AIR.

"To be able to represent the wider community via a partnership with Merlin is a dream come true."

Thanks to the new deal, Jaxsta now has access to the credits for more than 80% of global music releases.

“Delivering accurate and transparent data reporting is of crucial importance both to Merlin and our growing global membership of independent labels and distributors," said Merlin CEO Charles Caldas.

"This partnership with Jaxsta will help ensure our members’ repertoire is properly accredited, wherever in the world it is accessed and enjoyed.”

Merlin now joins other data partners of Jaxsta including ARIA, CD Baby, Hillsong, Mad Decent, Mushroom Music Publishing, RIAA, The Recording Academy, Sony Music Entertainment, The Orchard, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and many more.

The direct feed of data provided by these partners gives Jaxsta an edge when it comes to providing authoritative data for its music database.
