Colin Daniels, Managing Director of Inertia, was voted on the 15-seat board of Merlin, London-based global rights agency for the independent label sector.

Daniels is the second Australian on the board: former Shock GM Charles Caldas is Merlin’s CEO. Beggars Group founder Martin Mills returns as Chairman.

Others on the powerful board are from labels such as Epitaph Records, Belgium’s [PIAS], USA’s Tommy Boy, USA’s Domino, USA’s Evolution, France’s Because Music, Germany’s!K7 and USA’s Yep Roc. Merlin is often considered the fifth major label, as is the power they have over the global music industry.

Merlin’s members command around a 10% share of the global and US recorded music markets, it claims.
