The 2021 Indie-Con Australia conference is switching to an all-virtual format.

As a new round of COVID-19 outbreaks turns Australia’s main cities into hotspots, the independent music community has no chance to gather next week in Adelaide.

Instead, the annual conference will spark up as an online-only event.

The daytime program kicks off Wednesday afternoon (Aug. 4), and will cover off topics such as touring internationally, NFTs, funding for labels, copyright and neighbouring rights, and more.

Also, live networking sessions are built into next week’s programme, as well as on-demand presentations from Single Music, APRA AMCOS, PPCA, Noisehive, and ARIA.

Speakers this time include Jaddan Comerford (UNIFIED Music Group), Anthony Zaccaria (Linktree, Bolster) Alison Wenham (Music Credit Fund U.K.), Joshua Simons (Vampr, U.S.) and many others.

AIR Awards

The pandemic won’t stop the 2021 AIR Awards, which kicks off at 8pm Adelaide time next Thursday (Aug. 5) and streams on AIR’s YouTube channel.

Following the wipe-out that was the year 2020, organisers drew-up the AIR Awards as a hybrid event, hosted at Adelaide’s Freemasons Hall.

This year's ceremony will see the coveted Independent Album of the Year category contested by Ball Park Music, DMA’s, Fanny Lumdsen, Spacey Jane and Emma Donovan, while ABC Music, Etc Etc, I Oh You, Spinning Top and UNFD will battle it out for the 2021 Independent Label of the Year Award.
