Australian ticket resale platform Tixel has launched a new feature called Ticket Sheriff, which protects customers from getting ripped off.

Users can enter the username of a ticket seller to see if they’ve been busted doing dodgy deals in the past.

Fans who have been scammed online are encouraged to report dodgy sellers to the Sheriff.

The idea of Tixel came about after its founders Zac Leigh and Jason Webb hunted for tickets to a sold-out Melbourne show by Tame Impala.

One of their options was a transaction through Gumtree via “a friendly bloke who seemed trustworthy enough.”

The tickets they paid $400 for didn’t scan at the door and the duo realised they’d been scammed.

Tixel took on the problem of illegal and unethical ticket sales with a safe marketplace for person-to-person ticket resale.

Not one of the 70,000 fans who made transactions ended up in woes, the company emphasises.
