Hilltop Hoods’ annual initiative has opened for 2014, and will offer $10,000 to a hip hop or soul artist who has not yet released an album professionally.

The initiative is about softening the manufacturing, mastering and promotional costs involved in releasing a debut album. Winners will also receive legal advice, and microphone prize packs - as well as the promotional leg-up that winning such a competition affords.

The impressive judging panel includes Koolism and triple j’s Hau, promoter and booking agent Ran-Dee, Blank Clothing owner Raph, South Australian promoter Nish, and MC Tom Thum.

Applications are open [download the form here], with entries closing February 25. The winner is announced on March 27.
