Australian streaming service Guvera has launched in India in partnership with 7Digital.

In February, TMN reported the service launched in Indonesia as part of a partnership with B2B cloud-based digital music service provider Omnifone and IT company Skybee. The expansion made Guvera the first global unlimited music service to offer comprehensive domestic and international content in Indonesia.

In March, Guvera expanded into Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines in a partnership with Lenovo, which pre-installed Guvera on the smartphone manufacturer’s devices. The globalisation of the service called for a restructure which saw it part ways with its Australian General Manager, Scott Hamilton in August.

The deal with 7Digital for Android and iOS devices in India was announced in June. The deal sees Guvera’s library of over 12 million tracks available to the world’s second-most populous country (behind China), a country which currently doesn’t have Spotify.

At the launch event in Mumbai on November 6, Guvera founder Claes Loberg said: “We are both proud and excited to be the first-of-its-kind international music streaming offering to enter India; a market that is truly diverse in terms of its taste for music.”

Guvera launched in 2008 as a MP3 download site but has since become a free, ad-supported mobile app with an ad-free listening option for paying subscribers.

In Indonesia Guvera will compete with streaming services such as Gaana, Saavn, Wynk and Hungama.
