Green Day's 'American Idiot' is storming the UK charts ahead of Donald Trump's visit

For punk kids born in the late 90s, Green Day's seminal 2004 release American Idiot was a head-first foray into the sheer political power of power-chord laden anarchy. Beneath the saccharine hooks and powerhouse drumming were words of blatant fury and anger at the current state of the world - messages that still resonate to this day.

Now, it seems the Brits have recognised the title track's power again, in a new bid to get it to the top of the charts just in time for Donald Trump's debut visit of the country.

According to Consequence Of Sound, Brits have been downloading and streaming the 14-year-old track with a fearsome determination over the last week, in the hopes that track will hit number 1 by this Friday, July 13th.

Anti-Trump protesters have taken to social media to share their sentiments on the movement, saying, “Let’s give him the welcome he deserves."

“We’re doing this for the amusement as it WILL annoy him.”

Campaigners seem to be doing quite a solid job already, with the track topping the British Amazon charts as of July 6th. On the Apple Music charts, the track has managed to crack the top 20, currently sitting at Number 18 according to doipod.com.

The band have previously expressed their disdain for Trump's administration, chanting "No Trump/ No KKK/ No Fascist USA" during their performance at the 2016 American Music Awards. Green Day also depicted Trump as a zombie in their video for 'Back In The USA'.
