Former Lady Gaga manager Troy Carter to co-produce Prince musical for Universal Pictures
Artist manager Troy Carter will co-executive produce the production.

Universal Pictures is working on a new fictional musical movie which will use Prince songs to drive the narrative.
It is not a biopic like the eight-time Grammy and Oscar-winning Purple Rain from 1984.
Instead, it is described as more akin to 2008’s Mamma Mia.
The production company has begun meetings with potential scriptwriters and producers but there are no details on the unnamed film’s plot.
The untitled new venture is Universal Pictures’ latest in musicals, the first being 2012’s Pitch Perfect which grossed $115 million worldwide and generated two sequels, and the film adaption of Les Miserables which took in $441,809,770 at the box office around the world.
Next year’s schedule for Universal Pictures includes Last Christmas using George Michael’s music, and a film adaption of Cats.
Troy Carter, the artist manager and executive who is an entertainment consultant for the Prince estate will co-executive produce with Universal Music Publishing Group chairman and CEO Jody Gerson.
