SoundCloud adds music industry executive Troy Carter to board of directors

Music industry executive Troy Carter has been added to music sharing website SoundCloud's board of directors.

Carter comes with an extensive background in the music industry, having founded talent management company Atom Factory, tech and media company Q&A and its software division Venice Labs. He has also been Spotify's global head of creator services.

In joining the board, Carter will act as an advisor on new business models, artist development, and artist services to SoundCloud CEO Michael Weissman and the rest of the directors. He will meanwhile continue to lead Q&A. In a statement, Carter said he will focus on engaging indie acts and labels.

"Independent music continues to be the fastest-growing sector in the music industry and SoundCloud sits in the centre,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to working with Mike and the board to unlock massive opportunities for independent artists and labels throughout the world.”

Weissman described Carter as "one of the few leaders that have operated and succeeded in all sides of the music industry".

"At all times, Troy is one step ahead of the pack. We share the same vision and excitement for SoundCloud’s potential to shape the future of the music business,” he said.

"It’s hard to think of someone better suited to join SoundCloud as we enter this new phase. I am honoured to welcome him to the SoundCloud board.”
