Flying Lotus, aka musical polymath Steven Ellison, is executive producing and composing the score for Netflix’s upcoming anime series Yasuke.

As Deadline reports, the show will be created, directed, and co-executive produced by LeSean Thomas (The BoondocksBlack DynamiteThe Legend Of Korra) alongside Japanese animation studio MAPPA. Announced today by Netflix, it's one of five new anime titles incoming to the SVOD giant.

Yasuke will star Atlanta/Get Out actor Lakeith Stanfield as the "retired ronin (samurai warrior) who must take up his sword when he is charged with the task of transporting a mysterious child who dark forces want to eliminate.”

This isn't FlyLo's first foray into film production; his own debut film-making effort – the NSFW Kuso – premiered at Sundance in 2017. But it's his production work he's best-known for, having produced tracks with Mac MillerKendrick Lamar and Thundercat.

FlyLo wears many hats. He continues to rap under the pseudonym Captain Murphy and also runs a record label, Brainfeeder Records, using his formative experience working at Stones Throw to make his first industry connections.
