It's a huge weekend for local music, with Australian female artists topping both the ARIA albums and singles charts for the first time in 15 years.

If you've been paying attention to the music world lately, you'd likely be aware that 2019 has been a big one for Aussie music.

Back in August, we witnessed Tones And I breaking a local drought by becoming the first Australian artist to top the ARIA singles chart in a year.

Since then, the track has been a massive success, spending #13 weeks atop the chart, and becoming equal-second for most weeks at #1, trailing Ed Sheeran's 'Shape Of You' by just two weeks.

However, while Tones And I kept contenders at bay on the singles chart, this week saw Jessica Mauboy return to #1 with HILDA, her fourth studio record, and second chart-topping album.

While these are exceptional achievements for both artists, it gets even more amazing when we consider this is the first time in 15 years that such an event has occurred, with Australian female artists occupying both top spots.

In fact, the last time it occurred was back in 2004 when Missy Higgins reigned supreme with her Scar EP, while Paulini's debut album One Determined Heart managed to start its two week run on top.

Amazingly though, this is only the third time this event has occurred, making us look to the future with hope it won't be another 15 years before it takes place again.

Elsewhere on the charts, Tones And I occupies the top two spots on the Aussie singles charts with 'Never Seen The Rain' reaching #2, while Horrorshow take out the top spot on the vinyl charts with their latest album, New Normal.
