Industry Heavyweights Explain This Year's Budget and Reveal What's Happening with Music Australia

The Federal Budget is discussed, debated and sometimes even derided every year it is released, but beyond the big headlines of the cost of living, health, defence, housing and handouts, it can be difficult to get a clear picture of what it means for you as a musician, music industry professional or small business owner.

That's why this week, TMN is hosting a special TMN Talks session, "What Does the Federal Budget Mean for Music?"

The panel features Adrian Collette, CEO of the Australian Council for the Arts; Julia Robinson, head of policy and advocacy for ARIA and PPCA; Meredith Fannin, founder of Darkwave; and Josh Pyke, musician and chair of PPCA. It will be moderated by The Music Network and The Brag Media's editorial operations manager, Vivienne Kelly.

The video panel session will delve into the hidden details of the latest Federal Budget and what is means for music businesses and artists, as well as the bigger picture implications of the funding around music education, superannuation changes and having secure long-term funding, instead of a constant reliance on small grants.

Plus, there will be a progress update on the Australian Council of the Arts' transition to become Creative Australia, and the implementation of the wider "Revive" cultural policy document. It will also touch on the Centre for Arts Workplaces, and just who might sit on the board of the new Music Australia.

The TMN Talks "What Does the Federal Budget Mean for Music?" session will be live on TMN on Tuesday, May 15, with highlights and the full session also screening across TMN's social channels.
