Invitation for EOI announced to operate iconic Sydney venue

The future of live music at Sydney’s iconic Hordern Pavilion is safe following an invitation for expressions of interviews in the Australian Financial Review.

The invitation for new management offers for Sydney's famous Royal Hall of Industries and Hordern Pavilion was published in the AFR newspaper yesterday (Nov 15).

However, Executive director of Centennial Parklands Kim Ellis has said maintaining the area as an entertainment precinct was high on the list of priorities for the future direction.

"So many Sydneysiders had their first live music experience at the Hordern," Ellis said. "The Royal Hall of Industries is proudly reminiscent of its past glory, boasting a striking, vaulted ceiling and magnificent cathedral windows."

As it stands, the lease for the Hordern Pavilion and the adjacent Royal Hall of Industries is set to expire in 2021. Currently, the NSW Government has allocated approximately $40 million dollars into developing ‘centres of excellence’, which may just see the Horden named as a suitable candidate.

Expressions of interest to manage the Sydney landmark, which opened in 1924 and became a concert venue in 1983, are being steered by CBRE.

CBRE's regional director of structured transactions and advisory services Wayne Redman said: "Based on our conversations with groups already looking, there is a great deal of interest in the buildings."
