Casey Wasserman has confirmed plans to sell his global talent agency, Wasserman, amid growing industry fallout linked to his name appearing in the latest Jeffrey Epstein files.

In a memo circulated to staff, per Rolling Stone, Wasserman said the renewed attention surrounding his past associations had become a distraction for the company and its employees, prompting the decision to begin a sale process. The founder apologised to his employees for his “past personal mistakes" that "have caused you so much discomfort".

He wrote: “It’s not fair to you, and it’s not fair to the clients and partners we represent so vigorously and care so deeply about."

The controversy stems from emails between Wasserman and Ghislaine Maxwell that were included in documents released earlier this year as part of Epstein-related legal proceedings. The correspondence dates back more than two decades, prior to Epstein’s criminal charges becoming public. Emails included a message where Wasserman asked Maxwell: “What do I have to do to see you in a tight leather outfit?” In a separate message dated April 1, 2003, he asked: “Where are you, I miss you. I will be in NYC for 4 days starting April 22… Can we book that massage now?”

Maxwell wrote back: “All that rubbing – are you sure you can take it?” and: “There are a few spots that apparently drive a man wild – I suppose I could practise them on you.” Maxwell mentioned being in Brazil and asked Wasserman if he had ever been. He responded: “Never…take me!”

Wasserman has previously said he regrets the interactions and has characterised them as a mistake made early in his career.

Since the documents were made public, several high-profile artists have exited the agency. Musicians including Chappell Roan, Weyes Blood, and Orville Peck have confirmed they are no longer represented by Wasserman, citing concerns about alignment and values.

Founded in 2002, Wasserman has grown into one of the largest talent agencies in the world, representing artists, athletes, and creators across music, sport, and media. Wasserman said the agency’s leadership team will continue to manage day-to-day operations while the sale process is underway, with Chief Operating Officer Mike Watts overseeing the transition.

Despite stepping back from the agency, Wasserman will remain in his role as chair of the organising committee for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The LA28 board has publicly stated it continues to support him in that position.
