Australis Music Group, a Sydney-based independent distributor of musical instruments and Pro Audio equipment brands, has acquired BH Stage Systems (formerly Billy Hyde Music) from AJ Maddah’s Madjo Enterprises.

Former Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah purchased the backline rental business in late 2012, when it became an independent company. Madjo Enterprises – a portmanteau of his last name and the first name of the company’s business partner Joanne Ward – is controlled by both Maddah and Ward.

The sale of BHSS is just one of the publicised moves made by Maddah following Soundwave Festival’s axing last December. As part of Maddah’s Deed of Company Arrangement with his various creditors, around $600,000 was to be raised by selling off BHSS Pty Ltd.

Australis Music Group announced its purchase of BHSS yesterday, saying it would grow its distribution of musical instruments and pro audio equipment and widen its investment in the live sound and stage event space.

“We are very pleased with the opportunity to widen our offer to the market and we believe that our history, know-how and industry talent will add value to an already very strong offer,” said Trevor Morrow, CEO of Australis Music Group.

All staff have been offered continued employment and will remain with the company.
