Australian-based start-up MuzeRoom launches app which curates your music news

An app which personalises the music news relevant to your listening habits together in one place, from the 250,000 music news items created a year.

Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter developed as digital newsstands, providing news of acts that their users were hungrily devouring.

But their roles have been compromised as algorithms began to dictate what news content is provided to fans, removing posts from pages from people's newsfeeds. 

Branded copy now seems to take precedence over real news.

Australian-based start-up MuzeRoom today has launched an app which makes delivery of music news more personalised and promises a more effective way of filtering the estimated 250,000 music news items created a year.

It gets fans to connect their Spotify, Apple Music and Facebook accounts to import their listening habits and likes.

At the moment, MuzeRoom pulls its music news from 150 music sites and blogs including Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, MTV and Tone Deaf. It updates every ten minutes.

According to its figures, it has tracked 220,000 artists and curated over 400,000 articles - an average of around 685 new articles every single day.

Co-founder Ronan Mason explains - “I love using the likes of Spotify and Apple Music, but they don’t offer me much more than the music itself.

“With MuzeRoom we wanted to change that – offering music fans up-to-the-minute music news, new releases, music videos, and tour announcements for the artist they are listening to.

“We think that’s the kind of offering music fans are crying out for, but that’s not currently available.”

He adds, “We wanted to take advantage of the time when a music fan is most engaged – when they are listening to an artist.

“Too often your music listening experience is not immersive enough, and platforms like Facebook are too cluttered to keep us informed these days.

“MuzeRoom promotes more of a ‘lean in and discover’ experience which ultimately leads to a more rewarding, engaging, and of course informative listening experience.”

Mason has long been in the Australian digital space.

He was head of digital at MTV Australia, lectured on digital music at the Australian Institute of Music, and was head of mobile, content and social marketing at Telstra for two years.

He set up MuzeRoom with Australian software builder and e-commerce specialist Dan Wanigasekera.
