Atlanta rapper 21 Savage to be “deported” to the UK

21 Savage, regarded as one of the best hip hop talents in Atlanta, looks like he’ll be deported to the UK.

He’s been arrested for apparently overstaying his visa.

In interviews, the Grammy-nominated rapper, born Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, talked of growing up in Atlanta and of being expelled at age 12 or 13 for taking a gun to school.

But one Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials told CNN, "His whole public persona is false.”

Authorities say Abraham-Joseph is actually British and came to the US in July 2005 aged 12 on a 12-month visa – and didn’t leave when it expired.

21 Savage is also being deported for being a felon, after being convicted of drugs charges in 2014.

His lawyer is working with authorities to “clear up any misunderstanding”.

She stated: “Mr Abraham-Joseph is a role model to the young people in the country - especially in Atlanta, Georgia and is actively working in the community leading programs to help underprivileged youths in financial literacy.”

In December his second album, I am > I was, topped the US charts.

In Australia, it debuted at #34 on the ARIA Albums Chart following up his debut Issa Album, which peaked at #42.
