APRA AMCOS and the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria have announced the inaugural Melbourne Sessions.

It is a one day only event of masterclasses, workshops and networking opportunities for emerging and mid-career songwriters.

It will be held Friday July 6 at Kindred Studios in Yarraville, with tickets on sale from April 17.

Grammy-winning R & B producer Warryn Campbell (Alicia Keys, Kanye West, Missy Elliott) will discuss the skills of songwriting and the business side of it, in an In Conversation session.

Leading one of the masterclasses is Shungudzo, US based Zimbabwe songwriter and solo artist who had co-writes last year for The Chainsmokers, Little Mix and Jessie Ware.

So are producer Anna Laverty, singer-songwriter Ben Abraham and multi-award winning film and TV composer Cezary Skubiszewski.

“As one of Australia’s fastest growing export industries, a career path in songwriting or composing has never been more viable, which is why we are partnering with Creative Victoria to further advance the artistic and economic potential in the field,” says Jana Gibson, APRA AMCOS’ director of Writer Services.

Professional development sessions for screen composers across film, TV, and the ever-growing video game genre are also being specially programmed to help expand composers’ business and creative networks and develop the community.
