Slowly, the silly lock out laws are being relaxed as yet another inner-city venue receives a lock out extension.

Chinese Laundry will now be able to accept punters until 2am, with last drinks served at 3:30pm - a thirty minute extension, effective immediately.

Chinese Laundry follows Oxford Art Factory, The Basement, World Bar, Palace Hotel, the Observer Hotel, and the ArtHouse Hotel to be granted the extra half-hour, with more than a dozen further venues likely to receive extensions in the coming weeks.

In January, Paul Newson, Deputy Secretary of the State Justice Department told the Sydney Morning Herald that “Industry feedback suggests up to 50 venues could take advantage of the relaxed lockout and last drinks times.” It will be interesting to see which venues don't need the criteria, and why.

It's progress, at least.
