SOTD: Ali Barter's new tune is a dark love letter

‘Ur A Piece Of Shit’ is Aussie singer-songwriter Ali Barter’s first new music since her 2017 debut album A Suitable Girl.

triple j are already all over the self-reflective single as it enters the playlist on high rotation this week.

“‘Ur A Piece of Shit' is an ode to my best friends,” Barter explains. “It’s about the things we went through as teenagers and how they’ve affected us in adult life, and how those experiences have bound us together."

"I also invited my girls into the studio to sing on the song. So, you can hear them all in there; my little Piece Of Shit Choir.”

The triple j Unearthed winner has broken the TMN Hot 100 on one occasion. ‘Cigarettes’ was a massive hit on the youth broadcaster, peaking at #78 while also reaching #2 on the Hot 100 Alternative Chart.

Barter will play two headline shows next month at Melbourne’s Howler and Sydney’s Lansdowne to promote the new material.
