It turns out all the hype leading into Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber's new bop was 100% justified.

'I Don't Care' slid into Australian radio station DMs at 2pm on Friday, first heard by TMN on Nova 96.9 Sydney.

Nova head of music Scott Baker-Smith was quick to jump on the Warner Music release.

"We are so excited about ‘I Don’t Care’," Baker-Smith says. "Two of Nova’s favourites who happen to be the planets biggest acts are back – and together – it doesn’t get better than this."

Irene Hulme, who is responsible for all the music you hear across the Southern Cross Austereo-owned Hit Network, tells TMN that "pop music is alive and well".

"I had goosebumps when I heard this for the first time."

Brad McNicol, music director at KIIS Sydney & Melbourne, summed up the new tune to perfection: "Tropical pop smash!"

'I Don't Care' was written by Sheeran, Fred Gibson, Max Martin, Shellback, Bieber and Jason 'Poo Bear' Boyd.

In other news, Bieber has just become the first artist to have six different singles eclipse one billion streams on Spotify.
