Joel Adams criticises society's response to COVID in new song

Aussie pop-soul singer Joel Adams has released his latest single, 'Sick World'.

The track follows on from his self-titled EP released earlier this year, which has since garnered more than 31 million streams.

Adams was residing in Los Angeles, where he was releasing music with help from producer and OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder, but returned home in light of the ongoing pandemic.

The latest track was written during Adams' first week of quarantine.

As countries began responding to the spread of COVID-19 in various ways, Adams was inspired to write about how divided society became.

"The lyrics – 'It’s a sick world but it got much sicker when we lost ourselves' – ring true now more than ever with the way social media and technology has evolved so quickly," he said.

"We rely so much on instant gratification and have become impatient and self-centred in an ever-increasing way. On one hand, we have evolved socially and economically but on the other hand, we are still so lost in so many ways ethically.

"I think 2020 has reminded us just how far we still have to go."

Adams was first launched into the limelight in 2015 when he self-released his debut single 'Please Don't Go'. The track has been more than 500 million times around the world since its release. His viral stardom earned the singer a place on Spotify's Top 20 Under 20 list of up-and-coming artists.
