GEM RPM is breaking new ground for Aussie producers

Aussie producer & DJ GEM RPM is forging a new path for local producers on the international music scene.

The face of April's edition of Showbiz Magazine, GEM continues to break new ground for Australians in a scene traditionally dominated by Europeans and American acts.

She’s just dropped her latest remix, a rework of her recording of the classic Hall & Oates song ‘Rich Girl’, with vocals by fellow Central Coast local Elaskia.

The release follows a massive year to date for GEM, who released her album The2070s earlier in 2019.

The acclaimed record breathes new life into 70s classics and rose to #2 on the Australian iTunes Chart in quick time.

It’s the latest achievement racked up by GEM, who earlier this year had the honour of being named in the Top 5 female music producers worldwide by Showbiz Magazine.

She was also nominated for Best Electronic Album and Producer Of The Year at NYC’s Independent Music Awards, and has been welcomed into The Recording Academy as a full voting member in the Producers and Engineers Wing.

"I’m incredibly proud to represent Australian producers within The Recording Academy, we have such a large pool of emerging talent from my local area and slowly we are developing a platform to showcase it,” she said.

As for the new remix, it was inspired by New York’s PRIDE Festival, and follows GEM’s performance at both the NY and Miami iterations of the event.

In any case, GEM RPM is a fantastic example of the potential for Aussies from regional towns to make it big and have a significant impact on the international music scene.

“We have a network of local artists and weʼre all championing each other,” she says.

“Maybe there is something in this Terrigal water.”
