Community radio shows a huge amount of support for Australian music, with almost 40% of music played coming from local artists. Taste-making presenters excel at giving airtime to an incredible spread of what Aussie artists have to offer. The Amrap Metro and Amrap Regional Charts provide insight into what’s getting airplay and attention on community radio each week, and here’s the lowdown on some tunes charting this week.
Totally Mild - #1 Amrap Metro/#2 Amrap Regional (Pictured Above)
Love is in the air for Melbourne’s Totally Mild with the affecting balladry of their second album ‘Her’, extending on their template of lush 60s style arrangements and crooner’s intimacy. Already scoring the accolade of Feature Album at Sydney’s 2SER, the band is sitting pretty at the top (or close to) of both Amrap Metro and Regional charts with more airplay coming from the likes of Perth’s Heritage FM and Edge Radio in Hobart.
Lowtide - #6 Amrap Metro

You want guitars? Lowtide have got ‘em in layers. Reverberating through the Amrap Metro Chart with their awesome wall of sound, the Melbourne band have just released their second album Southern Mind. Weaving intricate harmonies and melodies into a tapestry of shoegaze pop perfection, the latest single ‘Elizabeth Tower’ is just one of its blissful blasts telegraphing across stations such as Perth’s 6RTR-FM and Melbourne’s 3RRR.
Ocean Alley - #9 Amrap Metro

Working the wah-wah pedal for some serious psychedelic groove on their song ‘Confidence’, these Sydneysiders have made a paisley path into the Amrap Metro Top 10 with Radio Adelaide feeling the vibe along with Melbourne’s Inner FM. The band is about to head out of their Northern Beaches hideaway into a winter tour to perform tracks from their upcoming debut full-length, Chiaroscuro, playing dates through April and May including appearances at Groovin’ The Moo.
Abbie Cardwell - #7 Amrap Regional

About to hit the road with Vikki Thorn from The Waifs as a very nifty support, this Australian singer-songwriter is highly rated by Kasey Chambers as well as regional community radio. Cardwell’s new single ‘Bad Hair Day’ is a sassy and slinky tune that reminds us of the similarly simmering ‘Total Control’ from The Motels loaded with extra twang. Bellingen’s Triple B FM and Fraser Coast Community Radio are in tow to Abbie Cardwell’s slow-burn charm.
Mallrat - #5 Amrap Metro

Brisbane’s Mallrat has been bobbing around the Top 10 for some weeks and still holds a Top 5 Metro spot with her newest single, ’UFO’ ft. Allday. This unashamedly slick but low-key pop pleasure has people sweating on the arrival of Mallrat’s In The Sky EP but for now this creamy, hazy gem is cruising through the airwaves both Sydney’s FBi Radio and Brisbane’s 4ZZZ. They’re just two community stations giving Mallrat a lot of love at home while she makes ripples overseas.
