Last year, beloved Wollongong festival Yours & Owls launched their environmental initiative, 'Party with a Purpose. The festival made it their mission to minimize their impact on the environment by cutting down on single-use plastics and landfill. This year, they're ramping it up.

2018 saw the festival trial reusable cups and water bottles, compostable food waste, plates and cutlery — they ended up achieving an 85% recycling rate. Now, the team has announced that that they're going to attempt to minimise the amount of waste going to landfill to 10% or less and recycle 90% of environmental waste.

The strategy will include compost bins, reusable cups and water bottles and solar-powered shipping container bars. There will also be volunteers providing information on ways that punters can reduce their plastic use, and activations and installations about sustainable living situated around The Local.

To get you in the mood for some sustainable partying, the Yours & Owls gang are kicking off the festivities with the launch of #partywithapurpose at North Gong Pub on Sunday August 4, where they'll also be celebrating the official partnership of Y&O, Plastic Free Wollongong & #partywithapurpose, and the efforts they plan to achieve together across Wollongong moving forward! Reduce your carbon footprint and ride your bike or walk to the event!

To celebrate, Yours & Owls have collaborated with North Gong Pub to put together an evening of live music, commemorating the launch of #partywithapurpose. On August 4th Big White, Babey, Paradise Club, Fierce Mild, Tuffence Meringue will descend on North Gong Pub to tear through a coupla ripper sets. Entry is free, just RSVP here.
