Phase two of Vance Joy’s career is off to a dream start. The Australian singer-songwriter’s comeback track "Lay It on Me" improves 3-1 on Billboard's Adult Alternative Songs airplay tally (dated Sept. 30), for his second successive leader on the chart.

Joy (real name James Keogh) reigned over the survey for two weeks in Dec. 2015 with "Fire and the Flood," the third single from his debut full-length LP Dream Your Life Away.

In his young career, Joy has enjoyed four charting titles in the top 10 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs chart, which ranks radio airplay detections on adult alternative-formatted stations, as measured by Nielsen Music. He’s also landed a top 30 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Riptide,” and the album it was lifted from, Dream Your Life Away, peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard 200.

It’s a similar story in his homeland where Joy’s new single is certified gold and it’s the best-performing homegrown track on the current ARIA Singles Chart, rising 25-18, a new peak (Jessica Mauboy’s “Fallin’” is the next best Aussie recording, falling 29-38).

The signs are good that Joy hasn’t lost any precious momentum as he knuckles down on what for many recording artists has proved to be a “difficult” second album.

Dream Your Life Away sold more than 1.7 million copies worldwide and is fast approaching platinum status in the U.S. and this week returns to the top 50 of the ARIA Albums Chart, which it led back in September 2014.

UNIFIED Music Group CEO & founder Jaddan Comerford, who guides the artist’s career, recently told TIO Joy is working on a second album, though a release date has yet to be confirmed. Expect the 6’5” singer to road-test new works when he plays theatre dates in Melbourne and Sydney in late November for Frontier Touring.
