Aussie thrash metal hero Peter Hobbs dies aged 58

Australian metal hero Peter Hobbs, leader of the globally acknowledged Hobbs' Angel of Death, has died at age 58.

The news was confirmed on the band’s Facebook page.

A long-time resident of Melbourne, Hobbs recently moved to Queensland and was apparently working on new material after signing an overseas deal.

An ardent follower of thrash metal’s music, lifestyle and beliefs, Hobbs emerged in the band Tyrus.

He formed Hobbs' Angel of Death in 1987, calling its style "virgin metal" – a pure form of music.

The band toured frequently through Europe and the US, receiving much acclaim from the metal media as Blabbermouth and Loudwire for their debut album (1988) and Inheritance (1995),

They disbanded in 1996, reuniting six years later and issuing a compilation album, Hobbs' Satan's Crusade (2003).

In July 2003, they signed a four-album deal with Modern Invasion Music, and their last album Heaven Bled was in 2016).

Cause of Hobbs’ death on Monday (October 21) is not known.
