Northlane's surprise album Mesmer might knock Ed Sheeran off the #1 spot of the ARIA Albums chart.

Northlane surprised fans last Friday by releasing their new album without any announcement. The album has sold extremely well this week, and could end Sheeran's recent chart domination. At any rate, Memser will comfortably land within the top three.

Interestingly, the band was expecting a more modest chart debut, explaining upon the release: “We were warned that it was going to be a difficult thing to pull off, and that it could mean the album won’t chart as well or get covered enough by the media. But for us, that didn’t matter. We’ve had some awesome chart results (#1 and #3), been nominated for and won awards, and we’ve been in plenty of magazines around the world." Despite bracing themselves for a lower chart position, it's just not going to happen.

Also gunning for the top spot is country legend Kernaghan, whose 25th Anniversary Album has been posting strong sales figures throughout the week.
