Sony Music reveals 'market first' virtual promo trip

Sony Music Entertainment offices in Australia and the UK have partnered to create a virtual international promo trip for UK artist Tom Grennan, as Australia's borders remain closed due to COVID-19.

Sony Music said Grennan's virtual tour of Australia was the first of its kind locally.

The tour kicks off today and runs through to next week complete with back-to-back interviews on TV, radio, podcasts, print and online press.

Grennan acknowledged it's "weird" to be doing the important meetings and interviews virtually, but said he's honoured to be the first artist giving it a go in Australia.

"I would love to be out there doing this all in person, but due to the circumstances, luckily we can do it like this," he said.

"And you know what? It's still capable of connecting you with people. People are still knowing my face, like people in the radio stations, the journalists and that, and it's still giving me the opportunity to meet these people. They'll be like old friends when I get to Australia. I'm just thankful and even buzzing to be talking to people in Australia."

Grennan's single 'Little Bit Of Love' is now ARIA-certified Platinum. His album Evering Road went #1 in the UK, and he has since released the extended version, Evering Road Special Edition.

He said he can't quite believe his music has reached Australian shores.

"I can’t believe you lot in Australia are giving me a chance. I’ve worked my ass off to get to where I am and you’re giving me this chance to be broken out of Australia. I’m very honoured, I feel very lucky. Yeah I’m here to work and I’m here to stay. I want to be one of the biggest artists in the world and I know how big and important the Australian market is – and I know how much Australians love the music that comes out of the England and stuff like that. So to be given this chance is amazing and I’m very thankful," he said.
