Wil Wagner of Melbourne's The Smith Street Band has responded on social media to allegations that he emotionally abused former partners.

Last week a number of emails and Facebook messages, apparently sent from Wagner between 2013 and 2016 to two of his former partners, were leaked on Instagram.

Camp Cope’s Georgia Maq has since outed herself as one of the ex-partners.

She stated in Instagram: "I gave permission for those emails to be released after Ryan Adams was exposed last week for all his abusive behaviours towards women.

“This triggered me. Triggers are a result of trauma. I haven’t been with anybody since."

She added: "I’ve been told it was just a bad break up.

“I had to threaten him with an Intervention Order for him to stop harassing me.

“This was not a bad break up. This was harassment and emotional abuse."

Wagner’s statement read:

“Over the past few days, private emails dating back to 2013 have been made public.

“Some were messages sent at the end of a turbulent relationship.

“Things were said that have led to regret, things that were angry and mean.

“These emails have been selectively shown out of context, accompanied by one-sided statements.

“I am not hiding from anything. I said some incredibly hurtful things that I completely regret.

"I ask that you make up your own minds based on what has actually been said rather than form an opinion based on someone else’s version.”

Two support bands who were to join The Smith Street Band on their I Still Dream About You Tour in March, Brisbane’s Sweater Curse and New Zealand’s The Beths, both pulled out in support.

Both will reschedule their dates.
