The Cat Empire are offering an emerging Australian musician or act a global opportunity.

In a team-up with the Federal government’s funding body, the Australia Council, they will provide financial support for the act to join them on international dates.

The band and its management will also offer mentoring.

“By far the biggest resource Australian music has is the talent of its up and coming artists”, says co-frontman Felix Riebl.

“By getting involved and helping in our own small way, we are determined to help provide Australian musicians embarking on the first steps to an international career the opportunities we really needed back when we were contemplating our first overseas tours.”

Adds Paul Mason, Council’s director of music, “We know that providing support to artists at critical moments in their careers can help them to achieve amazing things.

“It’s great to see The Cat Empire, who used a grant to kick start their international touring, achieve so much that they are now in a position to give back.”

Acts can apply through the Australia Council’s “Arts projects for individuals and groups” or “Development Grants for Individuals and Groups” grant rounds.

The Cat Empire have been touring abroad since 2002, and now generated 1250 shows under their belt.

Some of their more recent road hits edged 100 dates each through Australia, Europe, America, and Asia as their albums started to break into the charts in various territories.

The band’s set to return to the fast lane behind the February 15-due album Stolen Diamonds.

The first chapter of its world tour takes in 21 shows through Canada and the US between February 28 and March 26.
