Sydney Opera House launches streaming service with shows by The Cure, Solange

The Sydney Opera House has launched a streaming service that features recordings of past shows by The Cure, Bon Iver, Solange, H.E.R and more. 

'Stream' already includes over 30 hours of footage from 45 live recorded live music and theatrical performances, with new content set to be added monthly.

As reported by The Music Network, four concerts are set to be added to the platform this weekend with Jack River, Ziggy Ramo & DJ Plead, the Sydney Symphony Strings and A Sunset Gathering of Music with Barkaa, Becca Hatch, JK-47, Kobie Dee, Milan Ring, Spvrrow and the Trackwork label showcase featuring T Breezy, Walkerboy, Sevy, Bayang and Utility.

On top of that, the catalogue also includes footage from the weekly digital program the Opera House produced following its temporary closure in March 2020, From Our House to Yours.

The series generated over 3.4 million global views within three months thanks to its inclusion of the likes of Winston Surfshirt, Briggs and Gordi.

Stream will also feature concerts that are available to rent for between $10 to $35 a month, like Sunnyboys – Live in Concert. 

As if that wasn't enough, there will also be recordings of Opera House Talks & Ideas festivals Antidote 2020 and All About Women 2021 available to watch.

Head of digital programming at the Opera House, Stuart Buchanan, said in a statement that the streaming service allowed for digital programming to exist beyond the limits of the stage.

"Artists have always been early adopters of any new technology,” Buchanan said.

“Through the pandemic, we are seeing a critical mass of audiences follow their lead and embrace streaming as a truly viable alternative to in-venue performance."

“With Stream, we have created a space that is accessible for all audiences anywhere in the world as well as local patrons who cannot visit theatres in-person.”
