‘Rocketman’ biopic makes #2 debut at Aussie box office
The Elton John story is also the fourth largest ever opening for a music biopic.

The Elton John biopic Rocketman made a strong showing in its first weekend at Australian cinemas.
It debuted at #2 and grossed $4.52 million from 521 screenings across the country on the weekend, more than any other film and averaging $8,678 for each .
But it was unable to shake Aladdin’s stay at the top, which took in $7.59 million last week.
Rocketman’s Australian debut was the film’s second-best performance internationally, following the UK which has collected a total of US$15.3 million so far.
Australia’s score beat France ($1.8 million), Germany ($1.5 million) and Brazil ($1.1 million).
It hits Korea and Russia this weekend, and debuts in Japan in late August.
Internationally Rocketman made $25 million, beating Paramount Studio's forecast of $18—20 million.

Statistics show that 51% of attendees were female, and 55% were aged 30 and over.
Globally Rocketman has already generated $56 million since its premiere, easily covering the $40 million budget.
