The Sunshine Coast Music Industry Collective (SCMIC) has waived all nomination fees for the 2026 Sunshine Coast Music Awards, in a move designed to reduce barriers for artists and industry professionals navigating rising costs.

Announced today, the decision comes in response to ongoing cost-of-living pressures and broader challenges facing the music sector. SCMIC hopes the change will encourage stronger participation across this year’s awards, particularly in the lead-up to the revised nomination deadline of Friday, March 20th.

All applicants who have already submitted and paid nomination fees will receive full refunds.

The update follows last week’s announcement that nominations for the 2026 awards had been extended by one week, giving Sunshine Coast artists, bands, and industry figures additional time to submit across 11 categories recognising local talent and industry excellence.

SCMIC has also introduced a peer recommendation initiative, allowing members of the public and industry to invite artists or professionals to nominate. The organisation will then contact those suggested directly with an official invitation to enter.

Following the success of its inaugural event last year, the Sunshine Coast Music Awards will return on Sunday, June 7th 2026, at The Shed in Palmview, celebrating the artists, venues, studios, and behind-the-scenes contributors shaping the region’s music landscape.

Nominations close Friday, March 20th, with full guidelines and eligibility criteria available via the SCMIC website.
