Nightlife Music, which tackles digital piracy by providing consumer music services to businesses, has been named among the Top 50 Most Innovative Australian & New Zealand Companies.

At the Australian Financial Review's Innovation Summit in Sydney overnight, Nightlife placed 26th on the coveted list, sandwiched between fertility and genetics facility Genea, and engineering company WorleyParsons.

The award makes Nightlife the only music company to receive this honour in the awards’ history.

Nightlife Music CEO, David O’Rourke said:

“Music is something the whole world loves and we’re excited to provide a way for people to enjoy it in a business environment without artists and labels missing out on their share”.

M&C Saatchi took out the Top Overall Innovation and Top product innovation award for its innovation design consultancy Tricky Jigsaw. The consultancy created the NRMA Fire Blanket sensor network, which acts as an early warning system for bushfires.

As announced in TIO earlier this month, Nightlife Music has inked a partnership with global electronics giant AOPEN, which it says is “a strategic play designed to take the company’s services to a global audience.”

Nightlife Music CEO, David O’Rourke, said the partnership is vital in rolling out their new crowdDJ app globally. The app taps into a user’s Spotify accounts and allows them to control the music at a public venue.

“Over the past 12 months we’ve rolled crowdDJ out to more than 800 sites across Australia, with over five million user engagements. It’s allowing us to scale much more rapidly, and expand internationally,” O’Rourke said.

"We are proud of what we’ve been able to develop for our Australian clients and are excited to be exporting our services to other territories where we see as much of a need as there is locally”, O’Rourke said today.
