Australian artists Thandi Phoenix and Young Franco will host a pop-up station on iHeartRadio Australia, celebrating four decades of iconic music moments on MTV.

The station launched this morning, and each week will chart a decade in music, alongside performances filmed exclusively for MTV over the years. This week focuses on the 1980s, with follow up weeks shining the spotlight on the ’90s, ’00s and now.

MTV Sounds will be available on DAB+ in Sydney as well as via the iHeartRadio app.

iHeartRadio Australia’s content director, Brett ‘Nozz’ Nossiter, said the station is set to take off in style.

“We’re thrilled to be working with the iconic MTV, to create another unique iHeartRadio station. It’s a real blast to relive and celebrate some of the most seminal MTV moments from the last four decades of incredible music,” he said.

The party will continue across MTV’s broadcast channels with roadblocked content dedicated to long-form music performances and music archival series rolling out each Saturday in August on MTV and MTV Hits.
