Kylie Cracks U.K. Top 10 With ‘Padam Padam’

Forget the Ashes, there’s another Aussie keeping the Brits on their toes right now.

Kylie Minogue’s slinky electro-pop number “Padam Padam” (via BMG) climbs into the U.K. top 10, giving the “Princess of Pop” entry into an elite chart club.

With that feat, Kylie has now nailed U.K. top 10 hits in five consecutive decades – the ‘80s, ‘90s, ‘00s, 2010s and ‘20s.

She’s just the fourth female solo artist to do so, joining Cher, Diana Ross and Lulu, who each bagged top 10 hits in the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s and ‘00s.

“Padam Padam” climbs 12-3, a new peak in its ninth week on the Official U.K. Singles Chart.

That’s her best chart spot since “Higher,” her collaboration with Taio Cruz and Travie McCoy, reached No. 8 back in 2011.

"This is truly amazing and 19-year-old me would say the same thing,” Minogue tells the Official Charts.

“I am so thankful to everyone involved with Padam Padam and am astounded at how people have made it their own. The song belongs to everyone now and I’m loving every second of it."

Across her career, she’s scooped seven leaders from 35 U.K. top 10s -- her last solo outing in the top tier coming earlier in 2010 with “All the Lovers,” peaking at No. 3.

On the latest ARIA Chart, “Padam Padam” climbs 40-29 and is one of just two homegrown tracks in the top 50 (Vance Joy’s “Riptide” rises 28-26).

Kylie’s U.K. “Padamic” is nothing new.

She’s something of a national obsession in the U.K., her adopted homeland. In November 2020, when her 15th studio album Disco summited on the Official Albums Chart, Kylie became a record-setter as the first female artist to lead the survey at least once in five consecutive decades, surpassing the likes of local hitmakers Elton John, Cliff Richard and the late George Michael.

She's also one of the top 20 most-played female artists of the 21st Century in the U.K., according to airplay data published by rights society PPL, that market’s equivalent of PPCA.

In 2007, Minogue became the first female recipient of the U.K. music industry's MITS Award, which "recognises the outstanding individuals that have made the UK music industry what it is today," joining the likes of Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grainge, Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis, and late Atlantic Records co-founder Ahmet Ertegun.

She can add to that long list of U.K. No. 1 LPs when her forthcoming album Tension, featuring “Padam Padam,” drops on Sept. 22.
